Step-by-step Paperback book repair Instructions

Step 1: Place the worn paperback book in the machine to heat the publisher's glue for 1 minute 15 seconds.

Step 2: Remove book from the machine and spread the book apart, exposing the spine.

Step 3: Cut the glue strip to fit the spine.  You will want the glue strip 1-1/2" shorter than the actual spine to avoid the glue leaking out the ends when it melts.

Step 4: Center the glue strip on the spine of the book.  Close the book and line pages up.

Step 5: Place the book back into the machine and start the heating cycle for 90 seconds to heat the new glue strip. After the first 60 seconds, press down on the pages to realign the pages.  This will ensure that they are secured in the melting glue. After 90 seconds, remove the book and place it SPINE DOWN on the cooling rack for 15 minutes.  Do not attempt to open the book while it is cooling.
